The Powering Industries campaign, initiated by the Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE) and supported by GET.invest, strives to connect renewable energy suppliers and industries in emerging markets with decarbonisation objectives and challenges in accessing reliable and affordable power.
This includes “demand-side” sectors such as telecom, connectivity, tourism, agriculture, mining, and transport/e-mobility.
With this campaign, ARE promotes and fosters inclusive approaches combining industry decarbonisation with electricity access.
Key activities
Industry Delegation at Enlit Asia 2024
ARE successfully completed a key mission in Southeast Asia, serving as the ‘Association Partner’ at Enlit Asia 2024 that took place in Kuala Lumpur on 8-10 October 2024. With a strong focus on scaling the impact of Distributed Renewable Energy (DRE) in the region, ARE engaged through various activities, including a member delegation, an exhibition booth, and a speaking slot on a panel focused on hybridisation.
ARE also hosted a closed-door networking reception, bringing together key stakeholders from both the public and private sectors. Partners such as Energy Catalyst, alongside ARE Members like COMET, ComAp, H2 Energy, ion Ventures, Smart Villages, INGINE Wave Energy Systems, and Victron Energy, participated in meaningful discussions on advancing DRE solutions in Southeast Asia.

Powering Industries session at EAIF 2025: Powering industries and surrounding communities for the green energy transition
This session delved into the pivotal role of distributed renewable energy (DRE) solutions in meeting the growing energy demands of industrial operations—including sectors like manufacturing and telecommunications—while simultaneously providing local communities with clean, affordable, and reliable electricity. Experts explored successful models where industrial facilities and telecom towers are powered by renewable sources, enhancing both productivity and environmental sustainability.

ARE & GSMA sign MoU to fast-track energy access and enhance telecommunications connectivity in underserved in rural communities
The Global System for Mobile Communications (GSMA) and ARE announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) establishing a formal partnership to promote decentralised renewable energy solutions and improve telecommunications access in rural and underserved communities.
The three-year agreement, signed at the 10th ARE Energy Access Investment Forum in Kampala, outlines a comprehensive framework for collaboration to address barriers to DRE adoption and telecommunications access in low to middle-income countries.
