White Paper: Maximising Impact: Transforming Grant Funding for Energy Access
ENGIE Energy Access is proud to publish a new white paper that calls for a fundamental shift in how grant funding is structured and delivered to close the energy access gap across Sub-Saharan Africa.
“Maximising Impact: Transforming Grant Funding for Energy Access” draws on over 17 years of operational experience across 9 African markets to offer insight into what works, what doesn’t, and how grant funding can be reimagined for greater impact. The paper brings a field operator’s perspective — offering candid insight into four critical dimensions of the grant funding landscape: where funding is targeted, the instruments used to channel it, the volume and mix of capital deployed, and how funding is governed and administered. It sets out four strategic reforms and practical recommendations to better align funding with real-world needs and accelerate progress toward SDG7.
With more than 685 million people still living without electricity and less than five years to 2030, the need for bold, coordinated action has never been greater.
ARE CEO David Lecoque and Jens Jaeger, Director of Policy & Business Development, contributed to this white paper as well.
