New White Paper by ENGIE Energy Access urges rethink of grant funding for energy access in Sub-Saharan Africa
ARE Member ENGIE Energy Access has released a new white paper, Maximising Impact: Transforming Grant Funding for Energy Access, calling for a shift in the way grant funding is structured and delivered to help close the energy access gap across Sub-Saharan Africa.
Drawing on over 17 years of operational experience across nine African countries, the paper provides a practitioner’s perspective on what’s working, and what’s not, in the current funding landscape.
The publication proposes four strategic reforms and a set of actionable recommendations to align funding with on-the-ground realities and speed up progress toward Sustainable Development Goal 7 (universal access to affordable, reliable, sustainable energy by 2030).
With over 685 million people still living without electricity, the paper is a timely call to action for funders, policymakers and practitioners alike.
The white paper also features inputs from ARE CEO David Lecoque and Jens Jaeger, ARE Director of Policy & Business Development.
