Finance Controller



Job description

The Finance Controller is responsible for managing all financial aspects within the OpCo, including financial accounting, taxation, financial planning, analysis, and management reporting. They will oversee the implementation of financial strategy for the OpCo. Furthermore, they will ensure that OpCos maintain the highest financial management standards, financial discipline, streamlined processes, and compliance with internal control systems.

About the role

  • Being the custodian of the General Ledger, Chart of Accounts, and the central repository for all Financial and Management information for the OpCo.
  • Ensuring that all internal and external reporting requirements are timely met, including preparation of monthly and quarterly accounts and Statutory Annual Financial Statements in compliance with IFRS and Group Accounting Standards.
  • Ensure that transactions are correctly and timorously recorded in the books of accounts.
  • Monitor all balance sheet and income statement account movements and ensure that they reflect the correct balances, all relevant account reconciliations are performed, and corrective actions are taken timorously.
  • Perform detailed review and analysis of the OpCo numbers to confirm the integrity and resilience of reported results.
  • Provision of Technical Advice and Accounting support to other Functional Units.
  • Lead the implementation of new accounting standards within the OpCo
  • Prepare monthly business review reports, including detailed analysis and commentary and timely submission to relevant stakeholders.
  • Conduct variance analysis and prepare insightful reports to support management decision-making, providing visibility of key financial metrics, variances and corrective action.
  • Overall management, coordination and preparation of the OpCo annual business plan, capital expenditure,operating budget and periodically revised estimates.
  • Provide accurate and timely financial forecasts, highlighting key performance indicators, variances and risks.
  • Manage cash flow and liquidity, optimising working capital to support business operations.
  • Capital management, ensuring the OpCo is optimally capitalised and foreign exchange risk mitigated.
  • Maintain relationships with the OPCo’s Bankers or Lenders Manage OpCo’s compliance with tax law and all tax aspects, including transfer pricing, withholding taxes, indirect taxes, PAYE and tax planning.
  • Lead the development, implementation, monitoring and compliance of finance controls, ensuring that all critical processes are adequately controlled (e.g. order to cash, procure to pay, inventory)
  • Identify and mitigate financial risks, implementing effective internal controls.
  • Be the finance contact on all grant-related activities, ensuring correct accounting and reporting of grant transactions.
  • Managing the annual external audit end to end, ensuring that group reporting deadlines are met.
    Partner with group finance teams to execute group-wide finance projects across the organisation.
  • Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, identify training needs, and facilitate skill development.

About you

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
  • A Master’s Degree in Finance and Accounting, Business Administration, or other relevant discipline is preferred.
  • A Chartered Accountant (CPA, ACCA).
  • Big Four experience a distinct advantage.
  • Minimum of 8+ years of financial management experience five years at the senior management level, in an operation that has a minimum of $75m revenue.  
  • Deep knowledge of IFRS and financial reporting standards.
  • Good understanding of Country Taxation Legislation.
  • Proficient in financial management software and ERP systems.
  • Advanced Excel skills for financial modelling and analysis.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and link it to operational performance drivers, generate alternatives, and drive positive change.
  • Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a multi-geographic team.
  • Strong ability to utilise project management and accounting best practices to organise and prioritise tasks and the tasks of other finance team members.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to present financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
  • Experience in change management and the ability to positively lead change.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with a track record of building and leading high-performing teams.
