UNIDO ITPO Germany Cooperation

As part of the United Nations system, The UNIDO Investment and Technology Promotion Office Germany (UNIDO ITPO Germany) mobilises investments and technologies for sustainable industrial development. Situated at the UN Campus Bonn, ITPO Germany supports investors and companies by facilitating technology transfer from Germany to developing countries and economies in transition.

The ARE – UNIDO ITPO Germany

The cooperation was established in the wake of the MoU signed between UNIDO and ARE in January 2019. Autumn 2020 marked the commencement of this cooperation with a common objective to foster cross-sectoral coordination, technology exchange and business matchmaking. The ARE-ITPO cooperation aims to showcase technologies, expertise and experience of German/European companies from the DRE sector in emerging markets. The cooperation strives to facilitate interaction between key DRE stakeholders by providing a strong platform to mobilise investments to catalyse global energy access efforts and achieve SDG-7 and other SDGs by 2030.

In the first phase of the cooperation, the partners successfully organised virtual B2B matchmaking sessions at the OFF-GRID Expo + Conference in Augsburg on 4-6 December 2020. In total, more than 500 participants from 46 nations took part in the three-day virtual event and 150 B2B meetings took place. In addition, both parties developed a publication on Decentralised Renewable Energy Innovations to Boost Agri-Sector Productivity & Address Global Food System Challenges which was launched at the ARE Technology & Innovation Forum (TIF) on 27-28 January 2021.

The second phase of this cooperation will be starting soon. Updates to follow.
