ARE promotes DRE solutions at IOREC 2025 as Industry Partner

The 6th edition of the International Off-grid Renewable Energy Conference and Exhibition (IOREC) was held in Gaborone, Botswana, from 24–28 February 2025, as part of the 2024 SADC Sustainable Energy Week. The event was hosted by the Government of Botswana and organised by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), with the Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE) serving as the exclusive industry partner for this edition.

This year’s theme, Translating Commitments into Actions: Off-grid Renewables for Socioeconomic Development and Climate Action, guided discussions throughout the week. Participants explored enabling policy frameworks, innovative financing mechanisms, cutting-edge business models, and technology solutions aimed at accelerating the deployment of off-grid renewable energy. Special attention was given to the nexus between energy access and key development sectors such as agriculture, food security, and healthcare.

Jens Jæger, Director of Policy & Business Development at ARE, actively took part in IOREC 2025 and contributed to a session focused on innovative tools and business models to support the energy transitions of remote communities. ARE and its Members also contributed to sessions on “Delivery models for scaling up finance and investments in off-grid renewables,” “Mini-grids as infrastructure: Barriers, opportunities, and lessons learnt”, and “Empowering remote communities: Pathways to renewable energy.”
