ARE Member EDPR will contribute 750,000 euros to the fight against Covid-19 in ten countries

Lisbon, 7 April 2020 – ARE Member EDPR has set up initiatives in all its markets to help local communities combat the pandemic.

EDP Renováveis will contribute 750,000 euros to the fight against Covid-19. The company is financing projects at local level in most of its markets, aimed at alleviating the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic.

This aid will be distributed in ten countries (Belgium, Brazil, Colombia, Spain, USA, France, Greece, Italy, Poland and Romania) through several initiatives ranging from food bank donations, purchase of healthcare equipment, medical devices and rapid testing kits, to digital educational material to facilitate online learning. Each market has carried out a study of its needs to ensure the most effective use of this aid.

The 750,000 euros contributed by EDP Renováveis to combat Covid-19 are part of over €5 million distributed throughout the world by EDP Group, in markets such as Portugal and Brazil.

“We are living through extraordinary times that are impacting everyone. This situation requires us to act as responsible and solidary members of a society facing an unprecedented crisis”, said the CEO of the company, João Manso Neto. “EDPR has a very clear social component in its DNA. We are a family with the drive to transform the energy sector while also contributing to improve the communities in which we are present, particularly in this time of need. We firmly believe that, together, we will be able to overcome this challenge”, he reinforced.

A world leader in the renewable energy sector and one of the world’s leading wind energy producers, EDP Renewables joins its contribution to the various initiatives that the EDP group has launched to support the fight against Covid-19 and which already add up to about 5 million euros.

Among the most recent actions in Portugal is the offer of 50 ventilators, 200 monitors and medical support material, worth 4 million euros, to distribute to Portuguese hospitals. EDP also advanced with the purchase of more than 500,000 surgical masks, 20,000 FPP2 masks and 10,000 protective suits, worth half a million euros, to strengthen protection of patients and medical teams. In addition to supporting healthcare professionals, the company has extended its support to customers as well as around 1,200 suppliers, in particular small and medium-sized enterprises, to which it has decided to anticipate payments above 30 million euros.
