ARE Member Circles Continue to Shape the Industry
Since their launch in 2024, the Member working groups, known as Circles, of the Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE) have become a cornerstone of industry dialogue through both in-person and virtual meetings and workshops.
The most recent edition of these gatherings took place in person in Kampala, Uganda, on 10 April during EAIF 2025.
The ARE Financier Circle focused on Results-Based Financing (RBF) programmes, viability gap initiatives and qualification procedures. Members highlighted the need to simplify and streamline RBF contracts, as well as to establish mechanisms for long-term risk mitigation. The group will continue to work on these themes in future meetings to develop a common industry position.
Meanwhile, the EPC & Developer Circle addressed standards in the mini-grid sector and their impact on profitability. Discussions underlined the need for certification and standardisation in order to ensure safety and quality assurance across the sector.
The Technology and Manufacturer Circle also explored certification, but from a different perspective. Members discussed how to navigate certification requirements when entering new markets. Collaborating with certification bodies to streamline these processes was identified as a fundamental step for future projects.
To take part in these crucial discussions and help shape the future of the sector, become an ARE Member and join a Circle today.
