ARE advances distributed renewables agenda at major global energy events in the UAE
The Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE) strengthened its global advocacy for distributed renewable energy (DRE) during a series of high-level international energy events held in the United Arab Emirates.
ARE CEO David Lecoque represented ARE at the IRENA Coalition for Action meetings, the IRENA General Assembly, the opening ceremony of the Zayed Sustainability Prize, and the World Future Energy Summit. Across these engagements, ARE actively contributed to discussions shaping the future of the global energy transition.
Despite the withdrawal of the United States from International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), both the General Assembly and the World Future Energy Summit saw strong international participation, with more than 1,500 attendees from governments, industry, finance and civil society. Key conversations underscored a clear shift in the global narrative: renewable energy is no longer driven solely by environmental objectives, but is increasingly recognised as the cheapest and fastest route to achieving energy security.

Throughout the week, ARE made a strong case for distributed renewable energy as a critical enabler of resilient, affordable and secure energy systems. ARE CEO David Lecoque engaged with senior officials and partners from across regions, highlighting how decentralised solutions can rapidly deliver impact across energy access, commercial and industrial (C&I) applications, and emerging markets.
ARE was also invited to the opening of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week and the Zayed Sustainability Prize ceremony, attended by more than ten heads of state and the President of the United Arab Emirates, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Alongside high-level gala events, ARE held targeted bilateral meetings with partners and stakeholders.
These engagements reflect ARE’s continued efforts to expand into new market segments, including C&I and energy access, while ensuring its members remain at the forefront of the global energy transition through strategic advocacy, partnerships and market development.
