RENAC caters to the rising demand for BESS with online and in-person training courses

RENAC

In the past ten years, the cost of battery energy storage systems (BESS) has fallen by around 80%. This decline makes their role in providing energy shifting and ancillary services more and more feasible and strengthens their business case. As a result, BESS is becoming an important tool for integrating variable renewable energy into the grid and for ensuring stable grid operation.

Between 28 July and 01 August, ARE Member RENAC conducted the in-person Training “Battery Energy Storage Systems: Project Feasibility and Development“ in Windhoek, Namibia.

The training covered all aspects of BESS Project Development, including system design & sizing, battery technology selection, specification and selection of BESS components, financial modelling and risk assessment, codes and standards, safety design and mitigation measures, product warranty and performance guarantees, system-level acceptance testing, grid integration, O&M, and cybersecurity.

Perfect preparation: Before the in-person training, participants did the RENAC online training on Battery Energy Storage Systems for Grid Ancillary Services.
