Aptech Africa to deliver 250 solar power sites for healthcare across Zambia

ARE Member Aptech Africa is proud to have participated in the launch of an ambitious initiative to install 250 solar power sites across Zambia, a project that will transform access to reliable electricity for health facilities nationwide. This large-scale solar rollout represents a major step forward in ensuring that essential health services are powered by clean, sustainable, and cost-effective energy solutions.

The launch event was held in Lusaka and was well-attended, reflecting the importance of this project for Zambia’s healthcare system and development agenda. High-profile guests included: Senior Government Ministers and Members of ParliamentDr. Sania Nishtar, CEO of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, Representatives from UNICEF Headquarters, and Partners from international development organisations and the private sector

Reliable electricity is critical to effective healthcare delivery. Across Zambia, many clinics and hospitals continue to struggle with intermittent or nonexistent power supply, limiting their ability to provide lifesaving services. This project will help bridge that gap by installing 250 solar power systems to Guarantee continuous electricity for essential medical equipment, ensure safe storage of vaccines and medicines in line with international standards, power maternity wards, laboratories, and emergency units with uninterrupted energy, and reduce dependence on costly diesel generators and cut harmful emissions.

By integrating clean energy into healthcare facilities, the project will directly support maternal and child health programs, immunisation campaigns, and emergency care services across Zambia.

This project is being delivered by Aptech Africa, in close collaboration with the Government of Zambia, GaviUNICEF, and other development partners. It showcases the power of partnerships in addressing systemic challenges and building sustainable solutions that serve communities for generations.

Aptech Africa remains dedicated to advancing universal access to clean energy. From rural mini-grids to solar-powered water pumping systems and health facility electrification, our mission is to deliver solutions that improve lives, strengthen resilience, and promote sustainable development.
