ARE contributes to key policy dialogue in Addis Ababa to accelerate rural electrification for industrialisation
A high-level policy dialogue convened stakeholders from across Africa to accelerate rural electrification as a driver of industrialisation. The event brought together representatives from more than 30 African countries, including regulatory authorities, industry associations, and development partners, to chart a collaborative path toward expanding energy access.
Julia von Franz of the Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE) contributed to the discussions on how to streamline and enable regulatory frameworks to fast-track the deployment of distributed renewable energy solutions.
A key highlight of the event was the official launch of the African Model Mini-Grid Regulations Tool—a framework designed to support countries in creating sustainable, scalable energy solutions that foster economic development and industrial growth in off-grid areas. Developed through a multi-stakeholder process, the tool represents a critical step forward in harmonising regulatory approaches and unlocking investment in mini-grid systems across the continent.
Countries interested in adopting or adapting the African Model Mini-Grid Regulations Tool can receive support from the African Forum for Utility Regulators (AFUR) and GET.transform. Expressions of interest are open until 13 June 2025. [Register your interest here].
