Solartia to Develop Hybrid Mini-grids in Honduras

14 January 2022 – With the aim of increasing the current energy access rate in Honduras (80%), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), as a facilitator for sustainable socio-economic and environmental development in Latin America and the Caribbean, made available to the Government of Honduras nearly US$ 8,000,000 for the technical feasibility studies and implementation of two turnkey projects to bring clean and affordable energy to Brus Laguna and the island of Guanaja.

Thus, within the framework of the Rural Electrification Program in Isolated Places (PERLA), structured by the Social Fund for Electrification (FOSODE) of Honduras, this past December 29, 2021, the IDB together with the National Electricity Company (ENEE) of Honduras culminated a thorough international bidding process, which began at the end of May 2021, declaring Solartia as the winner of both lots.

Solartia is an international company specialising in solar energy, hybrid mini-grids, and energy storage, whose track record of more than 20 years has positioned it as an expert in energy access in isolated regions.

The project, two hybrid mini-grids that will benefit more than 10,000 people, comprises a total of 1 MWp of solar energy, 2.19 MWh of energy storage, and 1,950 kVA in backup generators.

The works will begin during the month of February, marking the beginning of a new era for the communities of Brus Laguna and Guanaja.
