Burundi Energy Access Days to channel public and private sector efforts towards Universal Energy Access by 2030

27 September 2022 – The Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE), and the Burundi Renewable Energy Association (BUREA), with the support of GET.invest Burundi, financed by the European Union and part of GET.invest, and the World Bank will organise the Burundi Energy Access Days on the 4th and 5th October 2022 in Bujumbura. This event will be held under the high patronage of the Government of Burundi, the Ministry of Hydraulics, Energy and Mines, Directorate General of Energy.

Statistics from the World Bank show that only 12% of the population has access to electricity in Burundi, below the East African region average of 47%. The Government of Burundi aims to achieve universal energy access in the country by 2030.

On the 4th of October, the Round table on Universal Access to Electricity in Burundi will bring together public sector stakeholders, including representatives of the government of Burundi, the Burundian electrification agency, development partners, as well as the private sector. The roundtable will discuss the government’s strategy to achieve universal access by 2030 and gather commitments from technical and financial partners to accompany its implementation.

On the 5th of October, the Burundi Renewable Energy Day will highlight investments and projects in the renewable energy sector in Burundi. It will include interactive sessions and networking opportunities to facilitate business partnerships. The event is open to private sector stakeholders such as national and international investors and project developers.

In addition, ARE will also organise an exhibition on the 5th of October. The exhibition will showcase private sector projects, innovations and solutions available in Burundi, as well as technologies and know-how at the forefront of decentralised renewable energy.
