Noida, 17 April 2018 – People in rural India have a new way to keep cool this summer: The Simpa Solar Cooler. In India the temperatures often reach 48 degree Celsius during peak summer months. Until now the rural population has not had many solutions to seek relief. While urban Indians can retreat to air conditioned homes and offices, the lack of reliable electricity in rural towns and villages means that most people have to suffer through the sweltering heat. To address this issue ARE Member Simpa Energy India (Pvt. Ltd.) has just launched an energy-efficient air cooler that is powered by the sun. Remarkably, it can cool a room up to 900 sq. ft. without any need for grid electricity.

Simpa Energy India provides solar power systems to homes and small businesses on financing with its innovative pay-as-you-go pricing model. The company has already provided easy financing for clean energy solutions to over 250,000 people in the last four years. Simpa is pursuing the opportunity to provide clean power and energy efficient appliances to the 250 million people in India that still lack access to reliable grid electricity.

Speaking at the launch, Simpa’s CEO Piyush Mathur said: “Simpa has been working towards helping the energy poor population in rural areas to climb up the energy ladder, with most products available on financing. The company has introduced several products compatible with solar energy, such as fans, television, inverters and now the Simpa Solar Cooler. The air cooler is particularly appealing to our customers in the states of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh which get extremely hot and uncomfortable over the summer. In the coming months, we plan to launch similar products that are relevant for the customers we are serving in various states across India.”
