Practical Action is looking for a Senior Technical Energy Adviser to join the Practical Action Consulting (PAC) Team and work within the Energy Access team. As a senior member of PAC’s energy team you will be responsible for high-quality technical energy advice and inputs on energy access consultancy projects, with a focus on quantitative analysis/inputs. This will include managing and delivering key international energy and development projects.
This position will cover the following key aspects:
The design and project management of the Poor People’s Energy Outlook (PPEO) programme - in collaboration with Practical Action’s Policy and Practice Team. Provide technical leadership and direction to a team of international development specialists, researcher and consultants, and in doing so ensure programme delivery uses and advances best practices and contributes to Practical Action’s strategic delivery.
Management of internal and external relationships: manage donor relations working with the corporate team in Practical Action;advocate for energy access on behalf of Practical Action at external events/forums; represent Practical Action on steering meetings with external partners; provide strategic direction both internally and externally.
Lead on energy access knowledge, research and learning - ensure knowledge, research and learning regarding energy access is integrated across Practical Action and Practical Action Consulting projects/programmes. Undertake academic research and research dissemination to enable full learning benefits from Practical Action projects/programmes.
Business Development - to deliver new business development and international networking on energy access to develop a growing portfolio of work in Practical Action’s target geographical areas. To win new work from international donors and commercial organisations by: leading and supporting the development of proposals; developing and maintaining networks at high-level (senior staff) and mid-level (technical staff) in the donor (e.g. DFID, FAO), international agencies, NGOs, consulting, private sector, academic and engineering sectors.
This job is based at Practical Action’s Headquarters near Rugby, UK. Some flexible working arrangements can be considered.
