We started Bboxx to tackle a major global problem: energy poverty. Currently, 840 million people live without access to energy, of which 650 million are in Africa. An additional billion people are connected to an unreliable grid.
We design, manufacture, distribute and finance decentralised energy solutions.
We are a vertically integrated business and our business model is based: our physical (distribution network) and digital (Bboxx Pulse) highways, our bold technology (hardware and software), and our partnerships.
Our Bboxx Pulse® platform enables next generation utility businesses to scale and reach their customers that are dispersed across remote locations.
We are expanding and scaling by forging strategic partnerships with governments and world-class corporates.
The Head of Finance is the most senior finance employee at Bboxx EDF Togo. They will build and manage a team as the operations of the business grows. This is not a role for someone who simply views themselves as an accountant since this person will be heavily involved in working with the MD to drive the financial strategy of the company. This person will have full oversight and responsibility for the finances of a company which is in a fast growth phase.
1. Financial Reporting
Bboxx EDF Togo is the leading off-grid company in Togo, with thousands of customers and thousands of transactions every month. This person must be comfortable handling large data sets to report in an accurate and timely manner. The main reporting areas would be:
2. Tax compliance and planning
At Bboxx EDF Togo change is welcomed and it is therefore important that the company is currently compliant with tax law but also has an eye on planning for the future whether this be the introduction of new products, changes in the capital structure or changes in business process which have a financial impact. This person will be charged with building and maintaining a strong relationship for the company with local authorities and ensuring that the business is 100% compliant with tax law. They are also responsible for managing tax declarations and tax audits. This person will also work closely with external tax consultants to assess the tax implications of changes to the business so that the business can effectively navigate the tax law.
3. Systems and data
Bboxx EDF Togo is heavily reliant on financial and operational systems to carry out it’s business. The company has hundreds (and soon thousands) of customers with many leased assets making thousands of mobile money payments. This must be managed by an effective system. It is therefore of the utmost importance that the Head of Finance has a good understanding of how accounting transactions are triggered in the system. The Head of Finance should be able to identify any system issues through the performance of monthly balance sheet reconciliations and should also work with the group software product team to ensure that the financial system is fit for purpose and incorporates any changes that are necessary to ensure accurate financial reporting.
Since the main business of the company is leasing assets on operating leases the Head of Finance will have responsibility over stock control and ensuring that stock losses are kept to a minimum by working closely with the Systems Controller on this.
4. Treasury and Funding
The Head of Finance will manage the cashflows of the company. It is therefore essential that they have strong control over treasury and procurement processes and work closely on this with the MD to ensure that these processes are complied with, and that spending is within budget.
The Head of Finance will also be the point of contact with national and international lenders and will work closely with the Group Corporate Finance Team to identify funding needs. Where new funding is required the Head of Finance will work closely with the Corporate Finance Team to drive conversations forward and make sure that accurate information is provided to prospective lenders/investors.
5. Budget, Business planning & Reforecast
The Head of Finance will handle the budgeting process along with Group Financial Planning & analysis team & local management from bottom to the top. It includes having ease in handling financial models and a good command in excel. The Head of Finance will lead all discussions with the local management team and the shareholders until the final approval of the year's budget.
6. Team Management
The Head of Finance will manage the System & process Team, accountants Team & the FP&A. It includes assigning goals, reviewing performances and managing day to day operations.
