The future of Nigeria’s power supply is off-grid. With an estimated 43% of the population without access to grid electricity - and only 26% of Nigerians who live in rural areas having access to electricity - the opportunities for developing clean power solutions through off-grid renewables are big. While the focus seems to be on solar, other renewable energy solutions like wind farms, off-grid hydroelectric power and biofuels will play a significant contributing role. Investment in batteries, solar panels, inverters and other technologies is scaling up. The Rural Electrification Agency is pursuing its plans towards providing access to electricity to unserved and underserved communities across the country, featuring market opportunities for those companies providing innovative and affordable solutions.
