EVENT BACKGROUND

To learn more about business and engagement opportunities and the framework for renewable energy and rural electrification in Africa, the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) Secretariat and the EU Energy Initiative Partnership Dialogue Facility (EUEI PDF) have created a structured political dialogue programme between Africa and the European Union which will take place in Nairobi, Kenya.

In conjunction with the Government of Kenya through the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, the EUEI PDF, in liaison with Practical Action and the Alliance for Rural Electrification - acting as AEEP civil society and private sector focal points respectively - will bring together a number of regional, international and local non-state stakeholders to discuss priority areas of Kenya's energy strategy in the Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) process.

This is part of a series of energy business dialogue forums taking place at the national level in Africa.

The Dialogue aims to boost renewable energy, rural electrification and clean cooking in Kenya by:

  1. increasing and attracting private sector, civil society and donor investments and operations;
  2. enhancing engagement in policy-making and implementation towards energy access;
  3. strengthening mutual understanding and partnerships between civil society, the private sector and government.
