BACKGROUND
After years of negotiations, the COP21 is expected to be a turning point in the fight against climate change. The energy sector, accounting for some two-thirds of all global emissions, must be a top priority for action if we are to keep global temperature rise below 2°C.

The EU Blending 2.0: mobilising climate action side session will gather representatives from the European Commission, major European financial institutions and representatives from beneficiary countries.

The side session will:

  • provide a brief overview and some examples on the EU working with public sector and private investors in external cooperation towards the objectives of Europe 2020 strategy; and
  • discuss how private sector resources and engagement can be further catalysed for climate change financing in partner countries.

In this context, ARE is expected to make a statement on the operational launch of the Electrification Financing Initiative (ElectriFI) by the European Commission.
