Carruthers Renewables is dedicated to commercialising the Carruthers Wheel, a patented hydro-turbine that works on drops < 10m. The Carruthers Wheel improves on conventional technology as it does not require impoundment, removing most of the financial and environmental cost, yet uses most of a river's flow to produce up to 4 times the amount of electricity. The amount of Very Low head Hydropower in Sub-Saharan Africa is conservatively esimated to be larger than the amount of economic conventional hydropower.
