ARE Member Green Climate Ventures turns to Investments in Sustainable Business in Emerging Markets
Florence, Italy, 24 November 2020 – Today, ARE Member Green Climate Ventures (GCV) announced the sale to FRIEM Spa of its equity stake in Windkinetic, a leading commercial and industrial clean energy system integrator. Financial terms of the transaction, which was finalised in September 2020, were not disclosed.
Green Climate Ventures is an impact investment firm providing patient capital to early-stage renewable energy and rural electrification, smart cooling and agriculture startups in emerging markets in Africa and Asia. GCV is actively seeking social impact ventures with innovative business models and technologies.
Current portfolio companies include Nexus Energy, Sharepower, Off-Grid Consulting, with plans to invest in several new ventures in 2021.
GCV was founded by Claudio Pedretti, a veteran clean energy entrepreneur who also established Windkinetic in 2015 and built the company into a highly regarded distributed renewable energy systems integrator. He is also an industry leader, currently serving as President of the Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE) and as a Steering Committee member of REN21.
