Set up in 2008, the European Business and Technology Centre (EBTC) was a programme co-funded by the European Union and coordinated by EUROCHAMBRES. Through a pan-India presence with its offices in New Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolkata, and Mumbai, EBTC offered complete end-to-end solutions to clean-technology companies who wanted to enter and ensure sustainability in the Indian market.
This India Off-grid Electricity Market: Policy Framework, Players and Business Opportunities publication is an output of the cooperation agreement between EBTC and ARE in 2015 - a cooperation which facilitated rural electrification competence and technology transfer from Europe to India. This document gives readers a brief overview of the potential of decentralised renewable energy generation in India with a view to stimulate private sector involvement in this sector. While the scope of this study is limited to micro-grids that can distribute locally produced electricity from solar, small wind and small hydro plants, core messages expressed may apply to renewable energy solutions of larger sizes too. This study does not cover off-grid solar based products such as solar appliances, solar water pumps and biomass based solutions.
