29 September 2015 - Last week, the world leaders adopted new global goals at the UN General Assembly in New York, which will replace the UN's Millennium Development Goals. The new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) (2016-2030) cover 17 key areas of development, including poverty, hunger, and health, among many others. Thanks to its intensive efforts, ARE amongst others was successful in achieving the adoption of Goal 7: “Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all”.
Energy is finally being recognised as a key enabler for development. SDG 7 will form a solid ground for the ARE membership to benefit from expected increasing growth rates for sustainable and cost-effective decentralised and off-grid renewable energy solutions.
Marcus Wiemann, Executive Director: “ARE will continue with its efforts to establish a level playing field to allow the private sector to engage in clean off-grid energy solutions.”
