Job description

BoxPower Inc. provides prefabricated solar mini grids in 20-feet shipping containers for off-grid and commercial power applications as a reliable and cost-effective alternative to diesel generators. Join us in bringing affordable, reliable, and renewable energy to underserved communities around the world.

BoxPower is seeking an experienced energy engineer to oversee R&D, product development, and production of our containerised microgrid products.


You must be

  • Highly driven and independently motivated
  • Creative, thinking ‘outside the box’
  • Organised and detail-oriented
  • A team player
  • Passionate about renewable energy


  • Mechanical, civil, or electrical engineering degree (preferred)
  • Prototyping, making, creating, inventing, tinkering (required)
  • AutoCad or equivalent 3D design
  • Metal fabrication, machining, and welding
  • Theoretical knowledge of engineering design principles
  • Practical wisdom of working with your hands


  • 4+ years in the energy industry
  • 2+ years project or product management
  • Managing supplier relationships
  • With DC/Off-grid energy systems

Duties and responsibilities: 

Existing Product Management

  • Engineering drawings and bill of materials
  • Energy production optimisation analysis
  • Developing new product configurations
  • Supplier and material selection and partnerships

New Product Development

  • Palletized modular energy system.
  • Multi-node energy network management
  • AC-coupling of multiple interconnected battery banks
  • Advanced control capabilities and automation
  • Patent filing and protecting
  • SBIR/R&D Grant applications

Manufacturing management

  • Supply chain and inventory management
  • Optimize production efficiency
  • Build out manufacturing facility
