Rural Spark, founded in 2013, is providing high quality energy solutions for rural India. Since it founding, over 100 Local Energy Suppliers have provided energy for over 5.000 people. However, the big market entry is yet to happen with the newly produced solution: the Rural Spark Energy Kit allows customers (Local Energy Suppliers) to generate electricity for their own usage as well as to sell to their fellow villagers, becoming resilient entrepreneurs. This tested solution is the first step in a smartly connected energy network.

With over 400 million people without access to electricity, rural India provides a unique opportunity to leapfrog existing top-down centralised energy solutions, and build the right grid from scratch, together with rural India.

Job description

Rural Spark is seeking to hire an experienced and entrepreneurial leader to carry forward the work begun by the company's founders. The Managing Director will oversee all business strategy and operations and drive growth in India, and beyond. The successful candidate will be offered an internationally competitive compensation package, including equity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set and execute the overall company strategy;
  • Grow and manage the core team;
  • Develop business development and sales targets and execute against them;
  • Drive and execute the global product and technology roadmap;
  • Manage reporting and relationships with funders;
  • With support of the founders, raise and manage capital to execute the strategy.

Does this sound like you?

  • 5+ years’ experience in a senior general management position responsible for commercial operations and team management;
  • 5+ years’ experience selling relevant products or services to rural markets in India;
  • Track record of achievement in a startup or equivalent high-growth context.
