Auroville Consulting (AVC) is a unit of the non-profit organisation, the Auroville Foundation. It has expertise in ecological and socially responsible development. We collaborate with academic, private and public sector partners both in India and internationally, helping to develop renewable energy, sustainable urban and industrial development policies, ecologically friendly technologies, and training programs on aspects of sustainable development.

The Solar Village Initiative aims to provide clean, reliable and affordable electricity to 100 villages. It uses village-level solar energy generation as a lever for sustainable and inclusive village level development in a manner that improves the quality of life of rural communities. Providing uninterrupted clean and quality power supply to underserved rural areas, democratization of financial benefits from renewable energy generation, reduction of GHG emissions and addressing energy, food and water security issues; these are some key features of the project. Its innovation rests in a holistic approach to using renewable energy technology as a driver for an inclusive, participatory and sustainable development aimed at improving living standards, economic productivity and delivery of basic services such as education and water supply in rural areas of Tamil Nadu. As part of the Solar Village initiative an incentivized internet search engine, the solar village search engine, has been launched to generate income streams and visibility.
