About the RECP

The Africa-EU Renewable Energy Cooperation Programme (RECP) supports the development of markets for renewable energy in Africa, focusing on meso-scale renewable energy investments. The RECP’s integrated approach includes the following activities:

  • Policy Advisory: Support the development of a policy and regulatory framework favourable to private investment.

  • Private Sector Cooperation: Facilitate African-European cooperation for co-investment, exchange of expertise and technology and promote investment in Africa’s renewable energy markets.

  • Access to Finance: Support energy projects to access finance, assisting project ideas to develop into concrete investment opportunities.

  • Innovation and Skills Development: Support the development of capacities and skills by creating an African-European network including research, education and private sector institutions.

ARE-RECP Cooperation Activities

ARE has been working closely with the Africa-EU Renewable Energy Cooperation Programme (RECP) in informing, mobilising and bringing together renewable energy companies wanting to start or expand operations in African renewable energy markets.

As one of the core activities, ARE in partnership with the RECP organises focused B2B and B2Finance Matchmaking events, thereby providing a strong platform for the sector to network and increase joint business development. For instance, ARE and RECP organised the ARE-RECP Off-Grid Investment Forum held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands (12-13 April 2016); a two day event, which was attended by more than 250 participants from the private sector, financiers and development partners and created fertile grounds for more investments in off-grid renewables.
