ARE ACTIVITIES

The Alliance for Rural Electrification promotes and provides efficient renewable solutions for rural electrification in developing countries.

ARE is a vital global network of innovators and off-grid professionals and our activities are based on the interest of our members and for the provision of a sustainable access to electricity in rural areas.

Accordingly, ARE is elaborating content (materials) built upon the experience and expertise of its members and for the benefit of rural electrification. To this end, ARE has created appropriate Working Groups on rural electrification related topics.

ARE Working Groups

These WGs are coordinated and fully supported by ARE and work to identifying the technological and financial gaps in the rural electrification process in order to generate appropriate answers to fill in these gaps.

Therefore, their objective is to generate a common approach to the challenges faced by the industry in the field of rural electrification.

ARE WGs also help to stimulate the creation of beneficial synergies for all the participants and to innovate in creative and suitable solutions for rural electrification, which contain recommendations for decision makers as well as technical and financial solutions for stakeholders.

  • Working on Technological solutions, Chairman: Michael Wollny (SMA)

  • Working Group Financing schemes, Chairman: Jose Galindez (Solarpack)

  • Incoming:Working Group on Corporate Social Responsibility.

ARE Events

ARE organizes and participates to many international events in the renewable energy and the rural electrification fields (for more information click on the events’ names).

Among others, the Alliance co-organize with EPIA the Photovoltaic Mediterranean Conference (PV Med around 500 participants) which has imposed itself as a key event for the development of PV in the Mediterranean area. ARE also participates to the European Sustainable Energy Week organized by the European Commission (5.000 participants) and as a party observer to the UNFCCC to the COP 14, the biggest International political forum on Climate change.

Moreover, ARE regularly organize smaller events directly related to rural electrification issues within the framework of its Working Groups or not (“Roundtable on PV and developing countries” in Brussels, Workshop “Market potential for off grid PV for rural electrification” at the 23rd EU PVSEC in Valencia, Workshop “Financing rural electrification in developing countries – A two fold perspective: The EU and the renewable energy industry” or the Workshop Hybrid Systems)

Finally, ARE is a supporting organization of many different events: Meeting of the African Club for Rural Electrification, in Mali; the “4th European PV-Hybrid and Mini-Grid Conference”, in Greece; "The 10th Africa Energy Forum" in France etc.

ARE Services: The Alliance offers the unique opportunity to its members to build up their profile as responsible international players by sponsoring its events. Also, ARE regularly proposes discount and increased participation opportunities to major international events.

ARE Publications

ARE elaborates content (materials) built upon the experience and expertise of its members and for the benefit of rural electrification as well as for the promotion of access to energy through RES to the relevant stakeholders.

These publications, mainly based on the work of our Working Groups, constitute of course a premium promotion tool for our members and their activities.

ARE Communication

A strong communication policy is crucial to pass on key messages, to reach all rural electrification stakeholders and to raise awareness of the challenges of rural electrification as well as of the opportunities. Therefore, the following complementary communication tools are being developed by the Secretariat to promote the association and to disseminate its messages, strategies and results:

ARE Newsletter: A tool to convey ARE messages, to disseminate ARE activities and any relevant information about ARE´s members. An instrument to provide our partners with the most up-to-date information on the rural electrification’s world. See the previous issues / Subscribe!

Press releases are regularly issued to provide our partners with key informations about the Alliance, rural electrification’s events, projects, opportunities etc. See the previous press releases

ARE Partnerships

Visibility, networks, lobbying, advocacy…the Alliance works on a daily basis with partners organization and towards key institutions and organizations at the international level. Therefore, the constitution of strong partnerships with the most relevant stakeholders of the sector, is a necessity for ARE.

The Alliance is an official Partner of the United Nations Global Compact and of European Commission with the framework of the Sustainable Energy Campaign. ARE is also party observer to the United Nation Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

ARE participates in the work of international Organizations and Forum such as the International Energy Agency (IEA PVPS), REN 21, the “Club de Madrid” or “ the Renewable Energy and Sustainable Development Committee” created by the OME.

At the same time, ARE is establishing the necessary links and partnerships with EU institutions, international organizations and financial institutions to create, promote and reinforce favorable policies and markets towards the use of renewable energies within rural areas.
