Mission and objectives of ARE
Our mission is to communicate the need to address the sustainable access to electricity of the developing world and to provide the necessary information, tools and renewable solutions for rural electrification.
Our objectives are:
- To contribute and stimulate sustainable development in non-electrified rural areas of developing countries by promoting accelerating access to electricity services from renewable energies;
- To serve as an international platform to foster communication and facilitate coordination between all actors involved in rural development and to generate a common position towards the promotion of rural electrification in developing countries;
- To facilitate market penetration or renewable energy technologies (RETs) within the developing world, in order to provide a sustainable access to electricity in rural areas;
- To support our members in the development of socially responsible actions towards the electrification of rural areas with renewable energies;
- To increase cooperation and aid for development funds from multilateral and bilateral institutions to be invested in delivering energy services through rural electrification projects with renewable energies;
- To increase society’ s awareness of the potential or renewable energy in the fight against poverty;
- To develop institutional support, technical assistance and networking to give the beneficiary countries the capacity to implement their energy choices;
To carry out these objectives, ARE is identifying the technological and financial gaps in the rural electrification process, based on the experience and expertise of its members, in order to generate appropriate answers to fill in these gaps. Furthermore ARE is lobbying before the relevant stakeholders, namely donors, banks, financial institutions and the private sector, to generate funds for rural electrification. Last, but not least, ARE is developing communication tools and materials to spread out among stakeholders and throughout the international community;
